The Stupid Things That Annoy Me

My Top 8 Pet Peeves...right now that is...

Okay, we've all got our little pet peeves, many of which are universal, but some of which are specific to an individual.

I know that some of mine are weird, but I also wonder if a few can relate, but have feared expressing them. (?) I don’t know. Then again maybe I'm weird. Maybe you should "prepare to get annoyed" with me. (?) Well here are my pet peeves in no specific order:

1) The woman at the gym who races in, talks to no one, and not only does she always use my bike, (and it’s not as if anyone else is on any at 5:00 am!) but she also takes my locker! Look there are 14 bikes, and over 200 lockers, and she has to take mine?? Okay why does something like this bother me? We can’t “reserve” bikes, or lockers. I just like those. I’ve gotten used to using each, and since I am usually there before her, you’d think she’d be mindful of that, no? Others seem to be. Most other regulars are. Of course I don't have a right to be annoyed by this, but, because I don't like the look on her face, I have decided, that solely based on that, I hate her. (Meanwhile we've never said one word to each other)

2) Gym Trainers who get paid, who think they’re qualified to give nutrition advice, when they’re not even nutritionists. And people listen to them! As if they know what they're talking about. Just because they may be qualified to help us train our bodies, doesn't mean it makes them qualified to give nutrition advise. (I suspect I'll get back lash for this one)

3) People who think they know a lot about a certain subject, show off their knowledge, (usually incorrect) when I know vastly more, and don't show it off.

4) "Oh woe is me" people: You know, the ones who constantly have so much trivial stress. (like they had a leaky in their faucet or something) Are constantly sighing, they’re the "Oh woe is me” or “poor me” types. Every time you see them they're complaining of "stress", (often times trivial) and their stress is worse than anyone else's. In their little worlds.

5) People who fear “drama”, or want to live “stress free” lives. Okay first of all; “drama” is a part of life. Get used to it or crawl under a rock. Personally I don’t mind my drama, both good and bad. The bad, sucks, but I also learn, and grow from it. And “stress free”? Really? Impossible. Sure stress, or our reactions to stresses, we can learn to adjust, therefore, minimize it, but we can’t eliminate it completely. And by the way, there is such a thing, as “good stress”. Like a vacation away, or a new romantic relationship. They’re both good, but they can also bring on stress.

6) Phlegm Flaunters: You know, those who incessantly sniffle, snort, and, or clear their throats. But these people do it with pride. And tissues don’t seem to exist in their worlds. Often times, it’s more so in the morning. So, I go the gym real early in the morning (As I spoke of before) and there are some regulars who will get on the bike, and just sniffle or snort away. Loudly, with pride. I often wonder, if they even are aware of the fact that noses can be blown, and if so, do they even know how? Or maybe they’d think of doing that prior to beginning, their bike ride, since it happens daily. ….. Just sayin’

7) Personal Body Space: If you're a total stranger, then please respect mine. When, it's not crowded, invasions of personal body space makes me nuts. I'll go back to the gym: (obviously I spend a lot of time there) ; ) As I mentioned earlier; there are about 14 bikes, there. What I use for my cardio portion of my work out. As you know, I'm usually there by 5:00 or 5:30 am. When I first arrive, rarely is there anyone using them, or maybe there's like one person. I will naturally use one somewhat distant to them (yes, even if not "mine") so that they don't feel like I'm on top of them, as the bikes are quite close together. Yet, when I'm there alone on the bike, an other fellow bike rider, will come in and evidently doesn't see either, me, or the 13 other available bikes, because, they will inevitably choose the one right next to me! Why?? Ugh!

7a) Okay, if you can think of some excuses for this, then let's go to the beach. On a nice day, by myself. I'll get there early, few other's will be there yet. I'll pick the most remote area. There will be an entire stretch of empty beach surrounding me. Then with in about 10 or 15 minutes there will be someone, or ones, with in arms distance of me! Yet, the rest of the beach will still be empty! I do understand if it's crowded. Then we seem to have a greater tolerance for our personal body space, but this often happens when it's empty! Are people just attracted to people? Do some subconsciously, feel safer being close to others, even strangers? Well, not me. If a place is not crowded, don't unnecessarily invade my space! While I'm normally a very demonstratively affectionate person with friends/family. But...uh, not with total strangers!

8) Constant Lateness: This is something I hate. Sure, every once in a blue moon, something will happen causing the person to be late. Understandable. But why are there some who are never ever on time? Ever! There is always some excuse, always! Oh, but they're always "sorry". Always! Really??? How sorry can ya' be if the behavior keeps getting repeated? I know: tell them to be at said place 30 minutes earlier than you really want them to. But, why should we have to? Why can't they just get to someplace on time?

I know, much of this is really weird, and I suspect that, most don't think in to things, the way I do, nor do they analyze things so. But for those who do kind of obsess, over nothingness, please let me know, so that I don't feel so weird.

...Anyone???

Marcy; Ew! Lol You just made me think of several guys, at my gym who actually blow their noses in gym towels! Who ever heard of that!!?? Personal space invading should be illegal, when not necessary! ; ) Thanks for voting!

I'm with you all the way (but not invading your space). You mentioned several things that drive me crazy, too. The 'snorters' are sickening. And anyone who doesn't understand personal space is a bit dangerous. Or creepy. Or both. Some others I've noticed - spitters, disgusting table habits, and others maybe too gross to mention. Ugh! Voted up and interesting.

Lol. I feel more like I'm invisible! I've actually said to people "...am I invisable??!!" when they get annoyingly close, unnessarily. It's as if I'm not even there. And I know those ladys at the supermarket all too well. They just walk around in obvlion. Inching their carts over everyone. Bill, is it only us who get sooo annoyed with it all?

billybuc profile image

billybuc Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

Oh, my latest...standing in line at the grocery store...the one behind me bumped me with her cart, then when she got it emptied she stood like one foot from me and kept inching forward...I wanted to slap her. lol Maybe you and I are just irresistable!

albertsj profile image

albertsj Hub Author 3 months ago

Lol. Bill, I know! What gives with that? Are we in an over populated country? It so annoyes me how some just don't get the personal space thing. Once, while at the beach, alone, while few other people were around. A woman came practically with in arms distance from me, like if a friend walked over, they'd have assumed we were together. That's how close she was. And there we were surrounded by a whole stretch of emply beach! I gathered my stuff up, while blatantly huffing & puffing, and rollling my eyes, and went to an other spot. Did some stranger sit on your bench again? Or maybe plop themselves, right next to you, while there were tons of other free benches? ;D

I just read this again and I'm laughing all over again. When will these damn people give me my personal space?

Oh yesJustin, reblog something about habitual gtardiness. You've got me thinking;Maybe I will to. It will be fun to see the different takes we each have on it : )

Cloverleaffarm: Thank you! At first I found myself getting annoyed writing this hub, but then I began laughing, and knowing that there had to be at least some who could relate to a few. And yes, # 4: those heavy sighers. Poor them, it must be tough being them...the victims. Always someone elses fault. ; )

No 4 gets to me...among others.

I decided this year to rid my life of the naysayers, whiners and otherwise negative people.

One friend complains consistently about her "14 yr old teenager"...and everything else.

I can relate to some of your other annoyances as well.

Great hub!

ON myspace years ago I used to list my pet peeves. there were well over 100 of them. the only one we share is habitual tardiness. perhaps I'll reblog that one of these days...

albertsj profile image

albertsj Hub Author 3 months ago

Yeah, you can say I'm very direct. It is funny that's part of my reason for sharing it. I hoped that if some other's could relate, then maybe I'd be able to laugh at it all, instead of getting so darn annoyed. Thanks for the 50th time Ian. : )

#2 and #8 are major offenders for me Jacy. I do work sometimes that is so quiet that all you can hear is snorting and coughing. It's so gross! And I agree people who are late always have a lame-brain excuse that never works. Your car breaks down or family emergency ok? You were late coming from Wal-Mart? Not okay. Great hub!

albertsj profile image

albertsj Hub Author 3 months ago

Hi Rika, yeah many were able to relate to at least one of my peeves. And believe me there are more. ; ) It's like of refreshing to know, that so many other's "sercetly" feel the same way. Glad you could laugh...at what drives me crazy! Lol : D Yes; humor is what gets me through life. Can't imagine life with out it. Thanks for the comment! : )

Had a good laugh here, Jacy! You dared to express what many of us are quietly steaming about... I am sure you have a wonderful sense of humor. Isn't it great that we can laugh it off in the end? What would life have been like without humor?

Tammy; Ugh, I didn't even get in to the parking lot offenders. I also hate when pple reach right in front of me, in any store I'm in, weather Walmart or an other store. Don't people just get that they're being rude??? Were they raised in the wild, or something? Ya' like Phlegm flaunters, huh. Thanks Tammy!

American View: Lol You actually woule tell the people to get off of the machines? Should I try that with the _itch that uses "my" bike? ; )

Wow... I think we were seperated at birth. These things drive me nuts too. I have a child in a car seat. In public, I will park far away from other drivers so I can get my child in and out of my car. I will have my hands full of stuff, toys, and try to contain my toddler who hits the ground running. The parking lot can be empty and people need to pull in right next to me then get irritated because I am not moving fast enough. Person space is big with me too. I hate shopping at Walmart and some insists on getting right in front of you to grab something. I don't like people getting that close. No one waits their turn.. You have hit many, many of my big pet peeves. Well done! Hahahaha.. pleghm flaunters.. :)

I am laughing at these. I have become so patient these days I just tune them out except the poor me and the Mr. Wizards. I so love turning it around on them. When younger I was much more forceful. Like when someone was on a bike or weights I wanted to use I would tell them to get off my machine. Pet peeves are a funny thing and they always evolve. Good hub. Voted up

Yes Ardie! You so get it! I too had the same co-worker! I think some thrive on stress & being a marter. Purposely, taking on more than they can handle so that they are "allowed" to complain. So that the rest of us will feel sorry for them...Ugh! Think they're hero's Bravo! Yup, you get it. I actually began feeling better once I began getting favorabe replies, and I was finally realizing that I wasn't as weird as I'd thought, and that many felt the same. Thanks for being one of them. You definitely get it. : )

ThePracticalMommy: Ugh, I so know what you mean! Soo annoying! Don't other's get it? I always pick my stuff and move, while blatantly huffung and puffing, and rolling my eyes. "cause I want them to see how irritating and rude they are. : ) Thanks for making me feel...a bit more, normal. (?)

I am the same way with personal space! :) I was just in a doctor's waiting room. I chose a seat far away enough from others in an area where there were plenty of empty seats available. Just as I got comfortable for my long wait with my writing journal, a woman came in and sat right next to me, taking my arm rest. Really, lady? All the other seats in here and you had to choose this one?!?

I digress. I'm glad there are others who feel the same way as I do about personal space in public!

Ardie profile image

Ardie Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

Ha! Many of your pet-peeves are also mine :) I NEED my personal space but I will make exceptions in a crowd, I cant stand the sniffle-snozz gang (nose-noise), and the poor me people? Yes, we all have things going on in our lives. And its natural to vent or complain sometimes but when its an all day every day issue people get sick of hearing about it. I had one co-worker who I swear PUT herself into stressful situations because otherwise she didnt know what to talk about or how to act. Great fun hub albertsj :) I hope you feel better now

(insert cat sound)! Did you feel better after writing it? I sure hope so! How right you are about drama and stress, no matter how much wishful thinking one does it still appears and we do learn a lot from it. Next time the woman gets on your bike, I suggest pushing her off! lol Looking forward to more of your pet peeves!:)

albertsj profile image

albertsj Hub Author 3 months ago

Hey Billybuc, Yeah, you so get it! And I so get what you're saying! ; ) Really refreshing to hear. I thought I was the only, one , selfish with personal body space with strangers. But the key phrase is: "'Personal' body space" not "'community' body space". I have at times gotten up at the beach & picked up all my stuff, while loudly huffing and puffing, and rolling my eyes, and moved...far away. What's the deal with people being so disrespectful, when there's an abundance of additional space? I'm so glad you got a chuckle out of this, and could relate. I was afraid other's might think I was a freak or something. Well, I'm sure that some will, but I really meant it in kind of a humorous way, because I know how ridiculous much of it sounds. Thanks for being a "freak" too! ; D

billybuc profile image

billybuc Level 8 Commenter 3 months ago

I suspect I'm laughing because more than a few of your pet irritants are mine as well. I'm pretty big on personal space and it is beyond me why anyone feels like I want them six inches from me when they are talking. Back the hell up and then we will chat! Or I'll be at the park sitting on a bench, a park with twenty other EMPTY benches, and someone will come and sit on my bench...that's right, I said MY bench! Great hub and fun to read!

Hey Tsmog, The way I seem to get through life is always with humor. Hey, I have to laugh at myself, & my ridiculousness, if I don't who will? Thanks for the suggestion for the George Plimpton book! : )

albertsj profile image

albertsj Hub Author 3 months ago

OMG: Okay fpherj48, you're prob younger than me. (Are we Facebook friends? It says my birth year in my profile) And it's so refreshing that you can relate. : ) Oh, I've got way more than 8, but I thought that would be enough...for now. Plus I was getting annoyed writing them! ; D Who says I don't stress out about anything? There is unnessary turmoil going on inside me. I've always been a neurotic being, in fact, on that rare occasion where I really can't find anything to stress about, I actually get nervous! : ) Read my Internet dating Pet Peeves hub if you want to see a few more...if you want to get annoyed that is.. ; )

Thanks for your comment! Glad I'm not alone : )

First, pet peeves aside, I do obsess regarding nothingness. Changing the subject - The George Plimpton book has me curious. The complete title is "Pet Peeves: Or Whatever Happened to Doctor Rawff?" A great mystery story about a writer. Although I just renewed my friendship with the book, I'm also remembering his other works - Out of My League and Paper Lions. A great 60's author. I recommend his work for your dilemma while looking forward to reading about your view of one of those books - jk = just kidding. Remember to smile and have fun, fun, fun, , ,

albertsj...Nothing "weird" here. Not that I can see. In fact, I could have written your exact annoyances....and believe me, I'm much too old to be considered, "weird." I'm just realistic and sensible. It appears you are as well.

I'm impressed you only have 8! But, then you ARE young. HA! give yourself a few more years (that are accompanied by the disgust of rudeness and plain stupidity!)...you'll have a longer list of "pet peeves."

On the brighter side though....you'll no longer get stressed out about much of anything! Hey, after awhile, we all learn what Forest Gump says, "Stupid is as stupid does!!" LOL.....have a good day...FREE from annoyances!
